Kearny gives us two very different kinds of customer. On the residential side it is Kearny Avenue and the streets running off it, where cars park along the ridge and the glass problems are the ordinary ones: chips off the Belleville Turnpike, cracks that opened over a cold weekend, side windows broken overnight. On the industrial side it is work vehicles in yards down toward the Meadowlands, where a cracked windshield is a truck that cannot go out and the fix has to happen where it is parked.
Both suit mobile work. For a fleet van in a yard we bring the glass, install it beside the building, and give the driver a safe drive-away time before the next run. For a car outside a house on the Avenue we do the same thing at the curb. The one thing nobody controls is weather: urethane needs dry conditions to cure to full strength, so hard rain or a deep freeze can push a windshield to the next day or into the shop. You will hear that when you book rather than when we arrive.
Kearny Avenue runs the length of the town along the ridge, carrying the shops and most of the daily traffic, while Schuyler Avenue takes the parallel route lower down. The Belleville Turnpike heads west across the Passaic toward Belleville and the North Ward, and Harrison Avenue runs south into Harrison and on to the Newark crossings. Below the ridge, the eastern half of the town is Meadowlands: warehouses, truck yards and the industrial roads that serve them, with the Turnpike handling the freight beyond. Residential parking is street parking on much of the hill, with driveways more common on the newer streets toward the northern end.

Truck routes explain most of it. The Meadowlands side of Kearny is warehouse country, and roads built for freight shed gravel and broken asphalt that heavy tires throw around all day. Anything driving between the yards and the Turnpike collects stone strikes. The Belleville Turnpike bridge and its approaches are jointed and patched, and crossing them repeatedly is hard on a windshield that already has damage. Up on the residential hill the causes are more familiar: cars parked on a slope get doors swung into them, winter salt is laid on heavily along the Avenue, and a vehicle left in the same spot for days is the one that loses a window overnight.
The direct route is the Belleville Turnpike west across the Passaic, then south on Washington Avenue and Broadway into Newark's North Ward; Oraton Street comes off Broadway and the shop is at number 23. Fifteen to eighteen minutes is normal. Coming from the southern end of town, Harrison Avenue into Harrison and over the Passaic to McCarter Highway north works just as well. Yes, and it is worth booking them together. Give us the makes, model years and which glass each one needs, and we will confirm what we can source before the visit. Doing them back to back in the same yard saves everyone a second trip, and we can stagger the cure times so the vans go back out in the order you need them.
It depends on length and position. We can generally fill cracks up to about six inches when they are not in the driver's sightline and not running into the edge of the glass. Anything longer, or damage that has reached the frit band at the perimeter, needs replacement. Send a photo and we will tell you which it is before booking anything.
We regularly work the yards and lots on the Kearny side and will quote anything further when you call. What we need is a flat spot with room around the vehicle and permission to be on the site.
