Being the glass shop on your own street changes how the job works. Nobody on these blocks needs a ride home or a loaner; you leave the keys at 23 Oraton Street, walk back up toward Broadway, and we call once the urethane has cured. That matters more than it sounds, because most households up here run one car, and a day without it turns into rearranged shifts and a missed school run. If your windshield is cracked but still safe to drive on, a morning drop-off almost always comes back the same afternoon.
The other half of it is stock. Broadway traffic runs heavy on Civics, Camrys, Altimas and older minivans, plus a steady supply of work vans, and those are exactly the windshields and door glass we keep on hand. Branch Brook Park sits a couple of blocks west, with the light rail running along its edge and stops at Bloomfield Avenue, Davenport Avenue and Branch Brook Park, which is why plenty of people here leave the car alone all week and only notice a crack on Saturday. Street sweeping shuffles half the block from one side to the other on schedule, and that weekly reshuffle is where a fair amount of mirror and door glass gets clipped.

Damage on these blocks is rarely one dramatic event. It is accumulation: a car parked outdoors year-round takes sun, road salt and the swing between a February night and a defroster on full, and a chip picked up months ago on Route 21 chooses that morning to run. Broadway itself is patched and re-patched around utility cuts, and the ridge left at the edge of a patch flexes a windshield every time you cross it. Then there is the parking. Cars packed bumper to bumper on a narrow street get door glass tapped by other doors, mirrors caught by passing vans, and back windows taken out overnight by somebody looking through the rear seat. Very little of it is your driving.
You are already here. From Broadway, turn onto Oraton Street and we are at number 23, six days a week from eight in the morning until six at night. Coming down from the Belleville end, stay on Broadway past Verona Avenue; coming up from Bloomfield Avenue, it is a couple of lights north. There is no trip to plan around a ride, which is the whole point of using the shop on your own street. We do not want you circling Broadway looking for a legal spot, so call ahead and we will time the drop-off so there is somewhere to put the car.
We close at six Monday through Saturday, and the practical cutoff for a same-day windshield is early afternoon, because the urethane needs its cure time before you drive. A chip repair is only about half an hour, so those we can often still take late in the day. Break-ins and unsafe cracks get moved up the queue whenever we can.
